Side Effect 07:58
The side effect of yellow teeth Overlaps a vivid habit Makes my words work twice as hard Made me understand not smiling The only city street I asked Not to change took just the summer The storied three-point arch Became a pair of SUVs The side effect of losing hair I've been assigned a brand new figure The rack of hats, a lottery To work the sun, to tend my out anxiety I work everything I wear Even the dress I don on laundry day There's no one in the Laundry Works Who knows I don't usually wear gym shorts The side effect of being bored A moment not full of distractions To pinch, to turn, to twist or pull Adjust the brightness of the screen The only city street I asked Not to change took just one season The front facade of local stones Became caladium glass I spent an infancy with oaks I bought an adolescent kiss The side effect of a divorce The kid is skeptical of love I spent an infancy with oaks I bought an adolescent kiss The side effect of a divorce The kid is skeptical of love

Full Costume 03:05
You came dressed in full costume To your first outing in months You didn’t want anyone to see The real shape you’re in Under scarves and tack-on lashes A mammal thread with arms You look like a sitcom star Attention poor and crowd-deprived This is not some backdrop dive And the scene being poured Is not a put-on prop device Mary Tyler Moore can take a cab Across Chicago in the rain And Gene Wilder’s on a train To some less candy-colored scape Are you holding on to the rails? Did you have a hand in mind? Is there a difference when the sun is coming up? This is not some backdrop dive And the scene being poured Is not a put-on prop device

about

Marmalakes Austin

Marmalakes is the Austin, TX, group led by Chase Weinacht and Josh Halpern, lifelong friends whose spirited intensity leaps from their recordings and performances.

Weinacht pays tribute to rural life in sparsely populated Texas towns he lived in as a child (those scenes and voices permanently inform his songwriting), while employing a playfulness only found in the city.
